One of the Ancient Malayu kingdom has found at the central of Sumatra island Jambi. This kingdom and Srivijaya kingdom at other side had grow at the same era. Ancient Malay kingdom was the the center of Mahayana Budhism. Ancient Malayu kingdom was rich of gold mine, Jambi's gold mines were primary economics resources and become the origin of name Svarnadwipa (island of gold) the sanskrit name of Sumatra. Until now traditional gold miner are found along the Batanghari river.
Strategic geographic position in the heart of Sumatra made Melayu kingdom prospered. Much of temple has founded at there. At 7th century Melayu kingdom be a part of Srivijaya, but Jambi still a stopover sea trade route eastern and western Asia. At 1025 Srivijaya conquered by Cola Mandala from India, many the prince flee to inland of Sumatra. They established of new Melayu Kingdom with the name of Dharmasraya .
At 1088 Dharmasraya revance conquer of Srivijaya. After 10th century AD. sea lane trade offer eastern- western Asia seems not safe, piracy occurs in the cities on the coast and rivers. On the other hand, the religion of Islam began to grow. Islam offers equality of human status makes it easily accepted by society coastal and river. The Hindu's-Budha's kingdom at South East Asia moved of the government to inland. Area of the temple began to be abandoned and forgotten.
After islamic era and sultanate was established in Jambi temple area abandoned populated and disappear it.
At 1824 the temple complex was found at Muaro Jambi by SC Crooke the United kingdom army member. Until the beginning of the 21st century, the temple Muaro Jambi complex has been identified approximately 110 buildings of the temple which is comprised of approximately 39 groups of temples. Ancient canal was found at there.
